Elon Musk and his minions are engaged in a coup, taking over government operations and throwing out the Constitution. So far the resistance is feckless, at best. For example, a group of Congresspeople attempted to enter the UsAID building. You can watch the video here. They were stopped at the lobby by some guys in suits, who said that the "front office" was "busy" and not available for a meeting. So the Congresspeople made statements to the press and backed off. I hope in the hours to come we can do better. Perhaps those of us not in D.C. might visit a Tesla dealership and make our displeasure known.
It is reported that Trump has designated Musk a "special government employee", which gives him some status as working for the executive branch, temporarily (130 days or less) and under relaxed ethics rules. The White House has so far declined to answer when this designation was granted - after the coup began, or before. The designation confers a fig leaf of pretend legality to Musk's operations. Even if he were a full time, permanent employee, it would not excuse the rampant violations of privacy, security, procedure, personnel, and other congressional enactments, nor the blatant disrgard for the constitutional provisions granting Congress the sole power to decide what the nation shall spend money on, and how much.
Meanwhile, in the White House squats the man who encouraged and is enabling this destruction of our democracy. He swore an oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution. He has unequivocally broken that oath. He is a traitor. Traitor Trump.
