On Martin Luther King Day a few decades ago, I was in the audience to hear a retired pastor, a former lion of the civil rights movement, speak at Burlington, Vermont's Fletcher Free Library. During the question and answer session that followed, I asked what issue or issues he felt people should focus on, if they wanted to carry on the assassinated leader's legacy. He thought for a moment, then said, "Homelessness." Now, in 2025, on Martin Luther King Day, I remembered that moment, and wrote this commentary for VtDigger.
